Flood Situation in Bangkok

To all my friends and relatives aboard.

We are all safe and sound here in Rayong town as it is at the South Eastern Part of Thailand. However, my sympathies go all out to my friends in Bangkok. A close friend staying in Pathum Thani has to shift his whole family as the whole Ground Floor has been converted into a swimming pool!

I was actually there two days ago and Future Park in Rangsit, a huge shopping mall is high and dry. By evening, news got out that it is flooded and the mall has to close. After the meeting, i quickly drove back to Rayong. Plans to go there this week has to be shelved as you never know what will happen. Its easy for me alone if I am driving. Just get out and run away. But if the whole family is with me, how can you do that? This picture borrowed from my friends website.

I heard rumours but I believe it was true. Somebody working at the dam didnt expect somuch water gathered and at the last minute they drain off three major dams simultaneously! I mean, I still don’t understand how can 1.2 billion cubic meter of water can just flows off from Nakon Sawan and reach all the way to Bangkok! That is almost 240km away! Alor Star to Kuala Lumpur? Its impossible for such much water to flow through Ayutaya and inundated the whole industrial estate called Rojana Industrial Estate. The whole Honda factory is submerged in water.

Next comes Nawanakorn industrial estate. I mean 7 major industrial area is totally submerged in water!

Sigh, I just hope that my friends living right downtown are not effected and pray that the water will divert into the sea as soon as possible.

Golf Course in Thailand – Amata Spring Country Club

I was browsing through the pictures yesterday and I stumbled back on some pictures taken at Amata Spring Country Cub in Chonburi and I did recall posting it previously but since the old blog is gone for good, might as well post it up again.

Another reason is this course is my personal best score so far in my golfing career. Ahem. – Clear Throat-

Golf Course in Thailand

First Nine score at AMata Spring Country Club.

The Front Nine was simply amazing. Five Par and One Birdie! Nett score = 40.

The Back Nine was interesting.  Four Pars. Total Nett score = 81. How about that??

Back Nine Score

Bear in mind this is the venue of the Royal Trophy between Europe and Asia for two consecutive year, hence this is THE course to play.

And anyway, you can’t simply walk in and pays and play. No siree. You gotta have connections.

The entrance to the Golf Course alone is phenomenal. Check this out.

And you will be greeted with so well mannered caddies. These caddies won the best uniform and well dressed from me after playing so many courses in Thailand.

Well, on to the Golf Course for a spectacular view. Hole No.1 alone faces a stream of bunkers right ahead waiting for you.

Hole #1

As this is not good enough, Hole #2 has more bunkers!

Hole #2 at Amata Spring

The whole of Amata Spring Country Club is wrapped around a huge lake with the iconic symbol of the Grand Amata Castle, currently under construction, at the background.

Castle Background at Amata Spring

The castle gets bigger at the Back Nine as we began to approach Hole #12 or Hole #13, cannot recall.

Amata Castle

I try to stay away from the bunkers as far as possible. Some bunkers in Amata Spring can be so deep that you ain’t gonna hit out at a single shot.

And finally, approaching the most talked about Signature Hole #17 at Amata Spring Country Club. Par 3 at only 120Yards.

Signature Hole Amata Spring

The Signature Hole No17 at Amata Spring

Why is it the legendary Signature Hole? Well, I don’t think Thailand has any golf courses which has

holes that need to cross over by boat except Amata Spring Country Club! Lovely view of the Green, isn’t it?

Hole 17 Amata Spring

No kidding, these sailors even salute you when you get on board!

Geting on Board Hole 17

My my. I almost Birdied this hole! My ball is just on the edge of the hill, if it were to roll down… Hole in One, maybe? :)

And that concludes the tour of Amata Spring Country Club. My rating for this course will be 9 out of 10. Worth checking it out.

Back to International School in Thailand

Well, summer holidays is over and school is now officially open for the new term. New term means new teachers, new students – the thing about international school here is every year new students come and go due to expiring of contracts for some expatriates and relocation-

The school now has new uniform and sigh, yes, more money to spend on clothings, not to mention the school fees.

International School Rayong

Ready for International School

But I really have to admit that amidst the high price of international school here, let me reemphasize again that the standards here are very much higher if compared to Malaysia. At her age, Joanna is really speaking much more fluently then anybody her age.

Extra curricular activities at International School here in Thailand are also very interesting with swimming, traditional dancing, pianos and get this, they even have typing courses for the kids. Yes, you hear me right. Typing as in typing the computer or laptop. I won’t be surprised if Joanna later types much faster than me, haha.

And we are not talking about using one forefinger right and one forefinger left pushing the buttons of the keyboard one by one. Nope, we are talking about typing with all ten fingers! Not bad, huh?

Other good things of international school here in Thailand is the teachers are almost 100% foreigners, native English speakers. Joanna has new friends in her class and it can onl.y gets better. Looking forward to that day

How to Go to Koh Samet Rayong and where to Stay

Koh Samet in Rayong is the most ideal place to relax on the East coast of Thailand. One of the reason is because cars are not allowed in the island, hence the beach is just THE place to chill down.
To get to Koh Samet, if you are driving from Bangkok, head west to Rayong and on towards Ban Phe. If you are taking a bus, then check out also bus to Ban Phe. Once you reach Ban Phe, you will see the ferry terminal and you can park your car inside the terminal if the parkings are not full. If car parks are full, the locals with drive a motorbike and take you to another place to park where the attendants will jaga your car.

Map of Ko Samet.

Koh Samet Map in Rayong

The reason I post this up is because of the following name cards which I can fnid it useful if I want to book to stay there as we have stay in a few places. Apache Resort is nice where they have a platform extended right out to the sea and you can sit and have breakfast on top of the platform and then jump into the sea for swimming after that!

Koh Samet resort

Another reason is of course, anybody can have a look here and make reservations through the numbers here. Happy holidaying.

New member to our Family

Brownie

Introducing our new member….drums rolling….tara…Brownie. If you ask me, give me a rabbit any time. They are the easiest animal to have, no smell, no whining and they can be so cute running around the house.

Brownie

However, at the time of posting, SH left the door open one fine day and suddenly, Brownie disappeared! We tried to search for the whole compound and behind our houses but I think that Brownie must have landed into some dogs stomach for supper.

And….

At the time of posting, we have THREE more new rabbits! Joanna was so thrilled that in the morning, you don’t have to wake her up any more! She will just jump put of bed and check out the rabbits.
